Use the Enterprise Wiki to create a single, go-to place for knowledge sharing and project management across the enterprise. Enterprise Wikis are simple to use, flexible, and lightweight in features. They are quick and easy to create, and you can easily add links to other information systems, corporate directories, or applications.

By using an Enterprise Wiki, you can avoid e-mail overload, provide structure to new and existing information, and encourage collaboration. This helps build consensus among team members.

Working with content - text, graphics or video - is as easy as working in any word processing application, such as Microsoft Word. Use the Rich Text Editor to enhance the formatting of content, apply styles to text, reorganize or spell check your content, insert and format tables, and embed graphics or video. You can do all these things without leaving the wiki page.

Other things you can do when working with Enterprise Wikis:

• Comment on a wiki page to enable discussion about the contents of the page
• Rate a wiki page to share your opinion about its content
• Categorize wiki pages to enable users to quickly find information and share it with others

In the Board, we are all specialists - feline clinicians, microbiologists, virologists, immunologists - and we have indeed developed guidelines for the management of feline infectious diseases during the last six years, which you will also find in the present issue. Some of them have been reproduced unchanged, but many contain updates, and new ones have been added.

There are three issues that have occupied my mind during these six years: continuity, independence and reliability. As far as intellectual independence is concerned, the task was easy: both the sponsor and the Board realized from the very beginning that any constraint or censorship exercised by the Company would be counter-productive. It would undermine the relationship of trust I wanted to establish, and would spoil the Board's prestige. As it is now, the ABCD is free to publish whatever it finds relevant for the feline practitioner - representatives of the Company attending our meetings are mere observers and respond only when asked for information. They do in most cases, I should add. Since they are scientists, too, they sometimes have difficulties to "hold their horses", jump into a discussion and volunteer information. The Board profits from their knowledge of industry vaccinology, which we, as academics, possess only marginally.

There is this third element in our publications - reliability. We are particular proud of having pioneered introduction of the evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) principle. It was first implemented in the JFMS issue mentioned above, and can now also be found in some of the guideline updates; look into the rabies chapter for example. Coming from the human field, "evidence-based medicine is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients." It is intended to counteract the opinion-based, unproven veterinary folklore that has invaded some realms of veterinary medicine. We must take a strong stance against vaccination antagonism - it is as old as vaccination itself, historically, and has psychological hallmarks of superstition.

Today's feline medicine looks different from feline medicine of some decades ago; the reason is: increased knowledge through research. The ABCD/Merial Young Scientist Award (AMYSA) epitomizes our focus on progress obtained by experimental and observational studies. The award will be given for the fifth time this year, and we expect the awardees to contribute to feline science also in the future.

I could mention other ABCD activities, like dedicated talks and PowerPoint contributions at scientific meetings, participation of Board members in CPD conventions - the last one in Catania/Sicily - booths with Board members assisted by trained vet students at congresses, the laboratory diagnostic quality assurance initiative (ring testing), the academic teaching initiative, the recent video interviews, which you will find on these pages...

The European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases (ABCD) invites applications for the ABCD & Merial Young Scientist Award 2013.
Candidates should have made an original contribution to the field of feline infectious diseases and/or immunology.

Again, two prizes will be awarded, one for clinical research, the other for basic investigation.
